North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School Reviews

this school is amazing once you get past all the work and join a few activities, i belive this school is a greta place to learn creativity and even music even though that its only allowed for 6th grade and up its awesome because it keeps you straight and out of trouble. i'm one of the students in the choir and we are not funded and thats why its not school wide and it was founded by the best teacher who always thinks of ways to be creative like in vocab. and now that ill be gone next year i'm really goin to be down because nwems is the best school i've been to and the teachers really care about us so yeah its the best to me.!!!

I think the school is great, but there is a lot of stuff that teachers don't see that kids are doing. It's a little aggravating to have 4 weeks tests, 8 weeks tests, and 9 weeks tests every 9 weeks. And that doesn't count the extra tests the teachers give us and the MCT2. It would be great if we had an art class or something. Kids end up getting bored and therefore are ending up doing drastic things.

This could be a truly awesome school if the administration could ever get their act together and worry more about the kids than appearances.

This is a good school, but there is nothing that is offered to release your artistic side. Choir and sports are offered to the middle school side, but nothing to the elementary kids. Also, a lot of students break school rules and bring dangerous items to school. It's a bit scary to know that at least one person has something that might hurt you when I'm walking to my class in the hallway.

Good school in terms of academics and high MCT scores (which seems to be the school's religion), but if you want a free-thinker, art, music, or sports don't come here! No sports are offered for Elem kids, unless you go through the city of Biloxi. Also, there needs to be more physical activity. Kids go nuts doing work all day with no way to get their energy out...

I have lived in Miss. all my life. This is the best school ever! My family and I moved to the coast because of the schools. I give this school an A+ !!!!!!

I am proud to say my child attends NW. The teachers are great, however I'm very concerned with the lack of physical activity the children are getting. Not only that, where is the creative side?

great school, very structured if that is what you feel your child needs. The teachers are wonderful and care about the kids. There needs to be more art and outdoor activities...and creative thinking; a good bit of pressure is put on teachers to have high MCT scores.

I have two children that attend this school and I have been around education for 40 years and this is the best school I have ever seen. The Teachers and Principals are always ready to talk with you and help in any way. Some parents think that the rules are too strict, however, life is scary and there are a lot of things out there that kids can get in and I think that it is important to keep your thumb on your children.

The principal and vice principal at North Woolmarket are very good administrators. I have been able to work with both, personally, during the school year. My boy has just completed the 7th grade, which in hindsight, was a demanding year academically. The course schedule was very involved, and for a 13 year old with a wandering mind, these teachers certainly made a lot of the info stick. I feel that my child will be fully prepared to deal with the demands of high school after going through the 7th and 8th grades at North Woolmarket. I've heard the complaints from some that 'breaks' and recess should be given more regularly, and I can not disagree, but I think it comes down to some pretty demanding course requirements, and just a few hours in the school day. All things considered, I want my son to be prepared for the next step.

I agree with a lot of the other parents when they say the children need more down time and recess or breaks. The school is very strict on several matters. There are very good teachers but I feel like the grading is unfair at the middle school. I know of two children with the same teacher yet he grades them differently . I also do not understand how one teacher can have only 10 grades in the gradebook for the 9 weeks and yet another teacher have 20. The grades also need to be put in the gradebook quicker. As for sports I cannot see taking that from the children but I do think Art and music should somehow be added. This school scores very high on testing but needs a lot of work in other areas.

We have just moved to MS from out of state and am very displeased with the lack of down time the children have during the school day. No art, music or RECESS? 1st graders with no time to play and get out some of that bottled up energy, that's wrong. And if works not done no PE? Come on, grades are important by all means, but so is a well rounded education. Wakeup people, school can be a fun place to learn. Both my children are coming home crying at the amount of work + homework and the lack of a freindly/fun activities at this school. It's hard as a parent to put your crying child on a school bus in the morning because they dont want to go. I am considering private school, but can't really afford it for two children.

I'm happy with the school, but feel the children are lacking in a well rounded education due to no music or art.

N. Woolmarket faculty not only provides an excellant environment for our children's education, but they also offer a support system for our children that no other can compare. The teachers are caring and actually are concerned with their students success. They make time to call home with a problem that your child may be having, or just to say, 'Great job!' The support system that they offer for their students is just wonderful. To see your child wake each morning anxious about going to school is a wonderful feeling for a parent.

NWEMS is a really great school! The teachers and other administration work diligently to make sure our children's environment at school is conducive to learning. Scores are very high, which is great, but I do agree that the kids need recess and a longer lunch. One parent suggested doing away with sports to raise monies?? Our kids need sports! This keeps them occupied and out of trouble. My son plays football for the Sharks - he wouldn't dare get detention for fear of not being allowed to play football. The kids really look up to the football coaches and the coaches seem to encourage and push our kids to do well in school. I'm proud to send my child to North Woolmarket.

This is an excellent school. The only problem i have, is they are so worried about test scores, that they forget to allow for physical activity. If the children can't have a break from the class, they will eventually burn out. When this happens, test scores will not matter.

My child attended this school for 4 years. Yes the test scores were great as my child scored advanced on everything, but as a parent mentioned.....test scores are not the only thing in life....let them have fun! After all they are children.....let them be children! Yes the dress code is a double standard, if the adminstration doesnt like it from his/her own personal opinion they are not allowed to wear it. The teachers there are awsome....with an acception to 1 that I had to deal with, Over all it was a good school, my child enjoyed going everyday and that is all that counts! As parents we always look to keep our children safe and look out for them...everyone has different opinions..just check the school out and collect your own opinion...and keep your eyes open for what you hear from others.... Good luck new Students.

My child has been involved with this school for K-2nd grade. We have been very impressed with his education level and equally impressed with the administration. The only concern I have deals with childrens health. There have been many talks of improving the diets and losing the soda machines. I would love to see a change in this direction.

Great school with teacher and administration working together to implement programs and setting guidelines. I do suggest that the above mentioned group do more to inform Parents of their child's achievement and problem area(s). A simple notification given to the student is not enough. Your website is nice and functional, but needs to be monitored for up-to-date information and require teachers to post grades in a timely manner. A week behind is unacceptable. There is a double standard for dress code. Homework is required, but many times not reviewed by the teacher, when turned in. This can have a negative effect on student's attitude toward the need for homework. The school district is always looking for monies to to operate on. Suggest eliminating sports programs. They are not required to pass school.

I believe this is a very good school. They could improve the school with giving the children art, music, and recess daily. Just concentrating on test scores is not the only thing that is important.
