Gulfport Central Middle School Reviews

I love Gulfport Middle School because they take pride in their job. They don't slack off like other schools do.

I'm am a 8th grader who's attending this school, and I will say that this is one of the best schools in the district. There is a wide array of electives, such as art, strings, band, step, basketball, football, and many other activities. The teachers are involved in everything, from the work, all the way to special events. They are ready to help out any student who needs it, and they will listen to anything you say. The principal, Micheal Battle, is the best I have ever seen. His methods of discipline may be a little unorthodox, but he gets the job done. The school has some racism, and some fights, but it doesn't occur much, and it's handled immediately. If you are looking for a school to send your child to, by far, make this your first choice.

Not such a great school, lots of racism (black kids calling white kids 'honkey', 'cracker', or being told 'we hate white people' etc...) and nothing is being done by the administration, they are plain ignoring it. The level of instruction is not very high, the teachers all seem very nice and caring though. Communication at all levels is not very good. Not much extra-curricular activities for the kids. They tend to cater to the children who have the most behavioral problems, it may as well be a so-called 'alternative school', unfortunately...

I used to go to this school. I stayed there for grades 6-8. It was good. The teachers were amazing. The administration was cool. The atmosphere was just awesome. I came there in 2003- and left in 2006.

This is in regards to the 2005 comments. I know that was a long time ago. I hope you get a chance to read this. My husband teaches at GCMS and I at GPE. There are cameras in the halls for your childrens' safety! I grew up in Long Beach, and all my life heard bad things about both of our schools. The administration at GCMS last year was fantastic. I cannot say anything about another year there because last year was my husband's first. I can say that your child mattered there last year. I am writing this because I have concerns of my own. There are some things going on in the district right now that are putting this school in grave danger. If you are a supportive GCMS parent please let those teachers know what a wonderful job they are doing. They apparently don't hear it enough!!!!

Behavior is not always controlled but every thing else is great! Academics are not all that matters.some children who don't accel in academics, need another way to shine . Not everyone learns the same way.The availability of the arts is great and important for individual expression and stress reduction. The teachers are of high quality ,create new ways to teach, professional, willing to do whatever it takes.2 of them gave me their home phone numbers. However. The only thing I would complain about would be the behavior of some of the students in the classroom.I realize at this age it's impossible to keep them 100 % from picking on each other but I think it should be 0 tolerence.

My Daughter went to school at CMS and received a great education. The teachers that she had were most helpful whenever a learning problem came up. My daughter was in the music program there (strings orchestra)and played the violin. Her academic classes paved the way for her high school years that were to say the least, successful. Because of the Teachers, Staff, & Admin, at CMS, my child has now entered college, with a music scholarship. She is a freshman this year and because of the dedication of her Music instructor, Billy Ulmer, my child is seated among the senior orchestra at her college, this is unusual for a freshman.

We have been very disappointed in this school. There is a major lack of discipline the teachers seem to be only concerned with helping the kids with bad grades and bad behavior and leave the good students with little or no help. If you want quality education and a safe learning environment, look elsewhere. Too much bullying by both kids and staff and not enough intervention on the part of the administration. Not sure why they have cameras in the halls. I would give this school an 'F'. They fail to provide a safe place for kids to learn and have an overall poor attitude toward the kids and parents.
